It all started when…

In 2010 we began a series of organic wildflower fields and winding paths on 99 acres in an area of Vermont called the Kingdom by some, the Queendom by others. Imbued with a vision for a future, synergic area devoted to creativity, health & happiness, we got to work. We both had experienced the fragility of life & the strength that exists in finding meaning.

This added to everything being magical. Life: here, anywhere. Also, having traveled, having lived in different locations we wanted a place that welcomed a sense of transit between “hard-edge realities” & ‘comfort zones’, that encouraged cultural communication. We wanted to share the beauty of the sinuous, glacier-sculpted land here, dotted in round-eyed ponds, laughing brooks & very forthcoming waterfalls - with our world’s weary warriors, those who wander & are not lost, those who are also all about learning more about others. Yearning to breathe free.

We also realized bees are one of our callings. They have a mission. We get that. Also our friend Melissa wouldn’t stop telling us that she was named for the venerable “honeybee”. Then that same month, another friend, Devlin was obsessively singing, “What’s the buzz”, from Jesus Christ Superstar. Ha! Then I remembered a linguistics class I’d taken at Hunter College. I’d learned that bees talked to each other by dancing. That had my attention. Then we saw a documentary about a bee die-off. And that did it. We became Bee Yourself Honey!

Bees work together. They give us our food & are the sweetest! So we started learning about bees, their magical, matriarchal world, their dazzling, specialized & scientific realities.

Bee Yourself Honey was born. A place where art ask questions and bees roam free. Where sometimes life gets sticky, but we work it out.

It also turns out that instinctively we had chosen the fruit trees and wildflower seeds that bees love the most.

Bee Yourself Honey, where people can both be themselves, and respect each other’s worlds. Where creatives, visitors, urban youth, & international exchange can happen. Where art, in all its varieties can happen. Where an ecosystem can thrive through companion planting & interwoven spaces. Where creativity, playfulness & healthiness can survive, where people & pollinators can thrive. A place where we can be ourselves, where the bees can be themselves, where visitors can as well. A space of experimentation & adventure. Art & discovery. Advocacy & organic agriculture.

Since then we have added Slovenian Bee Houses (gaily-painted home-made apian-apartment complexes) & a Look-Far Gazebo. In development, in an existing pagoda by a brook, is the Pink Planet Cafe , and in a converted palatial barn, also in process are a ‘Dance Space’, a gallery & the ArborBaron Workshop. We have also begun design work on a series of tiny AirB&B casitas or HoneyHavens; little cabins, streaming air & light. Ideal for artists, activists, friends on vacation, and anyone in need of a refresh. We are presently fielding interests in sweat equity & other types of investment. We also offer tour bookings, exchange programs, as well as other arrangements.

Among our many intentional organic wildflower & apple blossom fields, the bees collect their pollen, & dazzle us by multiplying the flowers they prefer.. We look after them, but really & truly they take care of us.

Our honey is sweet, with a touch of tang.
